AT&T wireless is a popular choice among account holders. Cell phones are a wonderful convenience that can save you time and act as a valuable tool in emergencies. However, with so many new features added each year, a fee here and there can quickly add up. Rather than paying far more than you should on your monthly wireless service bill, find out what discounts AT&T offers. You may be eligible for additional savings.

Employment Discount

Specific businesses have agreed to participate in employee discount programs through AT&T. Eligible individuals must be a current employee of either AT&T or one of the businesses included on the list. If you are not sure about eligibility, simply contact AT&T customer service and ask, or check their wireless website. There are a few rules about which accounts are eligible. Customer must sign up for a two year service agreement and select a calling plan that qualifies for the discount. Your human resources representative is another excellent source of information to help you get started.

Federal Employees and Educators

Some school districts and federal employees are also eligible for a discount on their monthly service plan. The same two year contract and calling plan restrictions will apply. Although eligibility may vary, most teachers and federal employees can receive as much as 20% off of their monthly AT&T wireless bill. Valid proof of employment may be required. This also includes colleges and universities, so make a point to find out if your employer is on the eligibility list.

Student Discounts

You don’t have to work for a school to receive a discount on your AT&T wireless bills. Students are also eligible to save money on their cell phone service. In order to see if your school participates in the discount sponsorship program, visit the AT&T wireless website. Current students can check for eligibility the same way employees do. You will need a valid school email address. After entering the email address in the “Qualify for Discounts” box, you will receive an email response that includes a link and instructions on signing up. In many cases, the discount is not limited to the monthly calling plan. Students can also save on their product purchases. Discounts range from about 3% to as much as 20%.

Senior Calling Plans

Many carriers now offer a way for senior citizens to save on their cell phone service. AT&T wireless programs include senior-specific plans. These are designed to offer the basics plus a few added features, but generally do not come with other extras that many seniors do not use. The minimum age is 65, and the plan runs about $30 a month through AT&T wireless. Additional usage fees for going over allotted minutes still apply.

Union Worker Wireless Discounts

AT&T offers a number of unions additional wireless service savings for all members. The rate is currently at about 10% off, which is applied to each month’s service charges. This includes the Communication Workers of America, the Service Employees International Union, and the American Federation of State, County and Municipal Employees.

Online AT&T Discounts

There is one other way almost any customer can save on their AT&T wireless service. By checking the internet for valid coupon and discount codes, new and existing customers may be able to purchase products for less, or even apply discounts to their monthly bills. Restrictions will vary from one coupon code to the next, and just like paper coupons, these will eventually expire. Before signing up for AT&T wireless service or making a purchase, check for current coupon codes. By applying a coupon code and taking advantage of another discount program, you can keep your cell phone bills as low as possible.
